What Is the 10-Day Rule for Discounted Sales?
Last checked against regulations: September 29, 2026
Short answer
Since August 1, 2026, the previous price shown in a discount ad in Türkiye must be the lowest price of the last 10 days before the discount starts (the previous rule was 30 days); the discount dates must also be stated.

In Türkiye, the discount 10-day rule is the requirement, in effect since August 1, 2026, to show the lowest price applied during the last 10 days before the discount start date as the "previous price" in discounted sale ads. Before this rule, the same calculation was based on the last 30 days. Alongside the previous price, a discount ad must also state the start and end dates of the discount.
How does the discount 10-day rule work?
The rule was introduced through an amendment to the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices (Ticari Reklam ve Haksız Ticari Uygulamalar Yönetmeliği). Its goal is to stop sellers from misleading consumers by raising the price right before a campaign and then advertising a "discount."
Follow these steps to find the previous price:
- Set the date the discount will start.
- Counting back from that date, list the prices at which you offered the product during the last 10 days.
- Use the lowest of these prices as the "previous price."
- Calculate the discount rate based on this price and show the discount dates in the ad.
Example calculation
Say your price during the 10 days before the campaign was 1,100 TL, 950 TL and 1,000 TL, and you cut the product to 800 TL for the campaign.
| Situation | Price (TL) |
|---|---|
| Prices in the last 10 days | 1,100 / 950 / 1,000 |
| Previous price (lowest) | 950 |
| Campaign price | 800 |
| Discount you can show | 150 TL, about 16% |
In this example, showing 1,100 TL as the struck-through price would break the rule, because it makes the discount look bigger than it is.
When does a different rule apply?
According to the Ministry of Trade (Ticaret Bakanlığı), for perishable products such as fruit and vegetables, and for services, the price applied immediately before the discount is used for comparison. Sales where the discount depends on a condition (for example, discounts applied once the cart reaches a certain quantity) are also subject to the same disclosure obligation.
What should marketplace sellers watch out for?
- Keep a record of your price history. If you sell the same product on more than one marketplace at different prices, keep a separate price history for each channel; you may need to prove the previous price during an inspection.
- Avoid raising prices before a campaign. Entering a campaign after raising the price within the last 10 days does not raise the previous price; the lowest price is what counts.
- Don't use discount claims in titles and images. Writing phrases such as "50% off" in a product title may violate both marketplace rules and advertising legislation; for details, see our article on marketplace product naming rules.
Return requests also rise during campaign periods; for withdrawal periods and return shipping rules, check our guide to the right of withdrawal in distance sales.
